Dr. Vini Fernandes Cruzat serves as a Lecturer in Human Anatomy and Physiology within the Faculty of Health at Southern Cross University. Possessing over 15 years of expertise, he focuses on nutrition physiology and metabolic biochemistry, with applications to sports performance and chronic diseases including diabetes and metabolic syndrome. His investigative work integrates molecular, clinical, and translational strategies to explore oxidative stress, immunometabolism, and nutritional supplementation, notably amino acids such as glutamine. Dr. Cruzat has produced more than 60 peer-reviewed publications in prominent journals alongside multiple book chapters, such as "Glutamine and the Immune System" (2017) and "An Introduction to Glutamine Metabolism" (2017). Prominent papers include "Amino acid supplementation and impact on immune function in the context of exercise" (2014), cited over 200 times, and "Molecular Events Linking Oxidative Stress and Inflammation to Insulin Resistance and β-Cell Dysfunction" (2015), cited nearly 500 times. His scholarly output has garnered more than 6,400 citations.
Dr. Cruzat's academic trajectory encompasses research fellowships at Curtin University's School of Biomedical Sciences (2015-2018), the University of São Paulo's Department of Physiology and Biophysics (2015-2016), and an EFSD fellowship at Université Libre de Bruxelles (2016-2017). He holds a PhD, a Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics, Registered Nutritionist credentials, and a Bachelor of Exercise Science. He has obtained over AUD 1.5 million in competitive research grants and industry partnerships. Additionally, Dr. Cruzat chairs the Queensland Regional Group of the Nutrition Society of Australia and leads the Local Organising Committee for the NSA Annual Scientific Meeting 2025. As a registered nutritionist, he advises on dietary strategies for endurance activities like marathons, stressing nutrient-dense foods, carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and hydration for peak performance and recovery.
