Dr. Hector Viveros Tapia is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Management at Macquarie Business School, Macquarie University. He earned his PhD in Management from Macquarie University, Master of Business from The University of Queensland, Master of Business Administration from the University of Chile, and Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Tarapacá, Chile. With a professional foundation as an Industrial Engineer, he possesses over ten years of experience as a university lecturer in Australia and as a professional in Chile. He has been an academic in the Department of Management for over seven years and previously held a position at UNSW Business School. In his current roles, he serves as Head of the Human Resource Management Major, Deputy Director of the new Bachelor of Business, Co-Chair of the MQBS Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and a member of the Department of Education Committee. Viveros Tapia teaches core Human Resource Management units across first-year and third-year undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including Strategic Human Resource Management, emphasizing student-centered approaches grounded in social constructivism to foster inclusivity, collaboration, and career readiness.
Recognized for his exemplary teaching, Viveros Tapia won the Vice-Chancellor's Learning and Teaching Student-Nominated Award in 2023 and has been nominated by students for three consecutive years. His innovative strategies, such as campus scavenger hunts titled 'Where's Hector?', diversity and inclusion events, and inviting industry practitioners for networking, have significantly improved class attendance and reduced unit failure rates while promoting employability through involvement in societies like the Macquarie University Business Society and programs such as LUCY Mentoring. His research outputs cover management education, neurodiversity, identity disclosure, and organizational transformation. Notable publications include 'In the shadows and the spotlight: exploring gay and lesbian perceptions of ally networks and identity disclosure in Chile' (2024), 'The Macquarie University Neurodiversity Initiative: a vision for making Macquarie University a sector leader in neuroinclusion' (2024), 'Where’s Hector? How a scavenger hunt helps first-year students explore the university campus' (2024), 'Putting executive doctoral students front and center: driving transformative practices in China' (2023), and 'The Machine at the center? Consulting and digital transformation in four Chinese organizations' (2023). He has served as a reviewer for the International Journal of Management Reviews, Journal of Business Research, and Production Planning and Control.
