Wael Othman served as a Postdoctoral Associate at New York University Abu Dhabi, affiliated with the Advanced Microfluidics and Microdevices Laboratory. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Mechanical Engineering from New York University in 2023. Prior to that, he obtained a Master of Science degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Khalifa University and a Bachelor of Science degree from United Arab Emirates University. His research focuses on the development of miniaturized tactile sensors for integration with laparoscopic surgical instruments, with the goal of restoring the sense of touch for surgeons during minimally invasive procedures. His research areas encompass microfluidics, soft tactile sensors, biomedical devices, and the manipulation of bacterial biofilm. Othman joined the laboratory in July 2019. He has been recognized with several honors, including the Best Mechanical Engineering PhD Qualifying Exam Performance Award from New York University Tandon School of Engineering in 2020, inclusion in Forbes 30 Under 30 in Science and Technology for the Middle East, and MIT Innovators Under 35 for the MENA region.
