Professor Wenming Yang is Dean’s Chair Professor and Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He earned his B.S. (1994), M.S. (1997), and Ph.D. (2000) degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Jiangsu University. Yang joined NUS in 2000 as a research fellow in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, progressed to instructor in 2006, assistant professor in 2011, associate professor in 2017, and Dean’s Chair Professor in 2020.
His research centers on combustion processes, internal combustion engines, biofuels, alternative fuels, and sustainable power systems, including micro thermophotovoltaic generators and emissions control. He leads the Green and Sustainable Transportation and Power research group and has secured substantial research funding exceeding S$35 million across numerous projects as principal investigator or collaborator. Yang has authored or co-authored more than 300 publications, with over 260 indexed in Web of Science, and maintains high citation counts (H-index of 54 on Google Scholar as of 2020). He serves as Editor-in-Chief of Energy Engineering and has held guest editor roles for journals including Energies and Applied Sciences. Notable recognitions include the Dean’s Chair Professorship, highly cited research and review paper awards, and prizes for contributions to science and technology progress from Chinese institutions. Yang is a member of professional bodies such as the Institute of Combustion, ASME, and ACS. He has supervised 28 PhD students and 16 postdoctoral fellows, delivered keynote and plenary lectures at international conferences, and contributed to university committees including graduate studies and academic affairs in the Faculty of Engineering and Department of Mechanical Engineering.
