Wenping Hu is the President of Xiamen University and a Professor in the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. He joined Xiamen University in November 2025. Hu is a Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, elected in 2025. His research focuses on the physical chemistry of organic semiconductors, with emphasis on organic semiconductor crystal engineering, field-effect transistor device physics, and the development of organic integrated circuits.
Hu earned his undergraduate degree from Hunan University between 1989 and 1993. He completed master's and doctoral studies at the Institute of Metal Research and the Institute of Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He held JSPS Special Research Fellow positions at Osaka University in Japan from 1999 to 2001 and Humboldt Research Fellow positions at the University of Stuttgart in Germany from 2002 to 2003. From 2003 to 2016, he served as a researcher in the "100 Talents Program" at the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Between 2016 and 2025, Hu was Professor at Tianjin University, where he held roles including Assistant to the President, Dean of the School of Science, Vice President, and Executive Vice President. His work has contributed to advancements in organic optoelectronic functional materials and related device applications through systematic studies on molecular design, condensed structure-property relationships, and device performance.
