Wheeler G. Foshee serves as the Dwight & Ruth Bond Professor in the Department of Horticulture within Auburn University’s College of Agriculture. He earned his B.S. and Ph.D. in Horticulture from Auburn University, with his doctorate completed in 1996, and his M.S. from Mississippi State University. Foshee began his career at Auburn in 1985 as an assistant county agent with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, where he conducted research as a pesticide specialist on fruit and vegetable integrated pest management. He transitioned to a teaching position on campus in 1990. From 1995 to 2003, he worked as a Pesticide Education Specialist in the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology. In 2003, he joined the Horticulture faculty as Assistant Professor, was promoted to Associate Professor in 2008, and advanced to full Professor in 2022.
Foshee’s research encompasses vegetable cropping systems, fruit pest management, and pecan pest management, with emphasis on vegetable production systems, including high tunnel technologies that enable horticultural producers to expand and extend their markets. His publications include "Priming Strategies for Parsley Seedling Production in Float Trays" (HortScience, 2022), "High Tunnel Production of Tomatoes for Season Extension and Increased Yields and Revenue" (Horticulturae, 2020), "Vegetative and Floral Chilling Requirements of Four New Interspecific Calibrachoa Cultivars" (HortScience, 2008), "Impacts of Nitrogen Fertilizer Application Timing and Rate on Sweet Corn Growth and Yield" (Nitrogen, 2025), and "Flight Parameters for Spray Deposition Efficiency of Unmanned Aerial Application in Vegetable Crops" (Drones, 2025). He received the 2010 Alumni Undergraduate Teaching Excellence Award and the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) Educator Award. Foshee teaches horticulture courses and supports extension programs benefiting Alabama’s agricultural producers.
