Willa Maguire is an Associate Lecturer (Teaching Scholar) in Nursing within the Faculty of Health at Southern Cross University. She holds the qualifications GCCritCareN(CN) and MNurseEd. As a registered nurse, she has worked in rural and remote New South Wales emergency departments and in various healthcare services in Sydney, the Gold Coast, and North Rivers areas. Passionate about education, she previously served as a nurse educator with TAFE NSW. Willa brings her clinical expertise and educational commitment to her academic role.
Since joining Southern Cross University as an associate lecturer in nursing in 2018, Willa supports nursing students in learning, skill development, and critical thinking. She mentors students to develop a positive mindset and lifelong learning attitude. Her teaching excellence is evidenced by the 2024 Outstanding Teaching Excellence Award, given to the top 10% of teachers based on student feedback over the previous 12 months. Willa is also a Fellow in the SCU Fellowship Community, part of the Higher Education Academy fellowship scheme. In addition, she contributes to public health awareness; in December 2024, she co-authored the article 'Hitting the beach? Here are some dangers to watch out for, plus 10 essentials for your first aid kit' with Andrew Woods, Lecturer in Nursing, published on The Conversation and featured in Southern Cross University news, advising on beach safety first aid kits for summer.
