William Highley served as Associate Professor and HVAC Coordinator in the Design, Construction and Trades department at Columbus State Community College. He earned an A.A.S. from Columbus State Community College and holds a Certificate Member (C.M.) designation from the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society. Appointed as HVAC Faculty Coordinator approximately 16 years ago, Highley was instrumental in the development and growth of the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) program, achieving an 11% increase in enrollment. He oversaw the hiring and training of adjunct instructors, ensuring comprehensive practical training for students entering the HVAC field within construction and trades.
Highley demonstrated strong commitment to community service by leading the annual 'Heat the Town' event for 14 years, where Columbus State HVAC students collaborated with industry professionals to install safe heating systems for Central Ohio homeowners in need. He contributed to institutional assessment as a representative for Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning on the Business and Engineering Technologies/Information Systems Technology Division Assessment Committee. His mentorship was recognized with the 2020-21 Mentor of the Year award from the Male Access Network (M.A.N.) Initiative, after nearly a decade of guiding students, including through virtual learning transitions. Highley received a 15-year service anniversary honor and was granted emeritus status by the Board of Trustees in September 2025 in recognition of his outstanding service. Additionally, he authored the article 'The Truth About Carbon Monoxide' in ACHR News in 2019, addressing key safety issues in HVAC systems.
