William Allan Prescott Jr., PharmD, serves as Chair and Clinical Professor of Pharmacy Practice in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. A distinguished leader in pharmacy education and clinical practice, Prescott earned his PharmD from the University at Buffalo in 2002 and completed a two-year pediatric pharmacy residency at the University of Michigan. Joining the UB faculty in 2004, he advanced through the ranks, becoming clinical professor in 2018 and interim chair in 2017 before his appointment as permanent chair effective January 16, 2020. In this role, he has strengthened relationships with clinical partners, facilitated faculty recruitment, and mentored colleagues toward promotion.
Prescott's research specializations include pediatrics, pulmonary therapeutics, immunization, vaccine misinformation, and pharmacy education, with more than 100 research papers and abstracts authored, including over 50 peer-reviewed publications featured in scientific journals and books. He has spoken to local and national audiences on vaccine safety, effectiveness, and hesitancy. Renowned for teaching innovation, Prescott instituted the school's Scholars Program in 2010 to prepare students for postgraduate residency training, introduced simulation-based learning, and advanced objective structured clinical examinations into the curriculum. His contributions have earned major awards such as the 2017 State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, 2015 University at Buffalo Teaching Innovation Award, 2013 American College of Apothecaries Albert R. Rosica, Jr. Memorial Award, and University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Teacher of the Year in 2007 and 2011. Prescott is a fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and the Mid-American College Academic Leadership Development Program. He serves as associate editor of the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education since March 2025, previously chaired the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Pediatric Pharmacy Special Interest Group, and sits on the board of directors of the New York State Council of Health-System Pharmacists.
