Dr. Ya-Ling Huang is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in the Nursing Discipline within the Faculty of Health at Southern Cross University. She holds a Bachelor of Nursing from Fooyin University, a Master of Nursing in Cancer Nursing, and a PhD from Queensland University of Technology. As a registered nurse in Australia and overseas, she possesses extensive clinical experience across acute and sub-acute care settings, including emergency departments, medical assessment units, adult intensive care, acute respiratory units, cancer and blood disorders, palliative care, acute medical wards, aged care facilities, and residential aged care in Gold Coast Health, Metro South Health, and overseas locations.
Dr. Huang's research specializations encompass acute care in emergency and respiratory contexts, sub-acute care including palliative, end-of-life, and chronic care, vulnerable populations such as older people and culturally and linguistically diverse groups, evidence-based practice, qualitative and mixed-methods research, and cultural and social aspects of healthcare. She has held teaching and research academic positions at Southern Cross University, Griffith University, and University of New England, and currently maintains adjunct senior lecturer roles at Southern Cross University and University of Southern Queensland, an adjunct research fellow position at Griffith University, and serves as a visiting research fellow at Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service. Her research efforts have secured over half a million dollars in funding from various sources as principal and associate investigator. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in Q1 journals and mentored clinicians and nursing students in clinical research projects. Notable publications include "Models of care for frail older persons who present to the emergency department: A scoping review" (2023), "Healthcare delivery to patients from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in the emergency department: A scoping review" (2024), "An Exploration of Psychological Resilience among Patients in the Emergency Department: A Qualitative Study" (2023), "Application of social ecological model to Taiwanese end-of-life communication and healthcare planning" (2020), and "Influence of social interactions, professional supports and institutional cultures on end-of-life care" (2022). Dr. Huang has received the Vice Chancellor Award for Research Excellence: Inspiring Researcher (Deans' Nomination) from Southern Cross University, the Award of Registered Nurse Expert Level from the Nursing and Midwifery Professional Recognition Program at Gold Coast Health, and the Excellence in Supporting Learning Recognition Award for Outstanding Contribution to Undergraduate Nursing Student Learning from Metro South Health. She served as mid-career research representative on the Faculty of Health Research Committee and the Executive Committee of the Health Service, Clinical & Community Research Group at Southern Cross University.
