Yifei Shen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at Fudan University. She earned her Ph.D. in Sociology from Fudan University and served as a Visiting Scholar at the Harvard-Yenching Institute from 2007 to 2009. Her academic interests center on family research and gender research. Shen holds leadership positions as director of the Family Development Research Center at Fudan University and deputy director of the Center for Sociocultural Anthropology at Fudan University. She previously served as Deputy Secretary General of the Institute for Research on Gender and Development at Fudan University beginning in 2003.
Shen’s publications include the books The Women Are Constructed: Contemporary Theory of Gender (2005) and Study on Gender Mainstreaming in the Specific Policy Contexts of China: Political Participation, Legal Status and Social Security (2008). Additional works encompass the article “China in the ‘Post-Patriarchal Era’: Changes in the Power Relationships in Urban Households and an Analysis of the Course of Gender Inequality in Society” published in Chinese Sociology and Anthropology in 2011, “The Notion of ‘Family’ and ‘Household’ In Policy Making and Implementation: the Case Of Delivering EXPO Gift Packets” in the Journal of Social Sciences in 2010, and “Technology and Sex/Gender-based Politics in the Cyberspace” in Collection of Women’s Studies in 2009. She has also led projects such as the Institutional Research on Family Common Property in Shanghai, a Young Scholar Project of the Ministry of Education.
