Yuan Qi is the Haoqing Professor at Fudan University and Dean of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence Innovation and Industry. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the School of Automation at Huazhong University of Science and Technology and a Ph.D. from the Media Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he also completed postdoctoral work. Prior to joining Fudan University, he served as a tenured professor in the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Statistics at Purdue University. His previous professional roles include Vice President of Ant Financial, Chief Scientist of Ant AI, Head of the Artificial Intelligence Department at Ant Financial, and Head of Financial Intelligence at the Dharma Academy; he is also a co-founder of iDST, now part of DAMO Academy at Alibaba.
At Fudan University, Yuan Qi directs the AI3 Institute and serves as Director of the Shanghai Academy of AI for Science. His research interests include deep learning, generative AI, Bayesian inference, and applications of artificial intelligence in science and finance. He has led the development of core AI platforms and systems, including large-scale graph neural networks and privacy-preserving AI technologies, with applications in risk management, credit scoring, and intelligent customer services.
