Zoe Hancock serves as Lecturer (Teaching Scholar) in SCU College at Southern Cross University, where she manages English language programs across multiple campuses, including direct-entry English for Academic Purposes, General English, and online English units. With qualifications including CELTA from the University of Technology Sydney and a Master of Arts from the same institution, Hancock brings over 25 years of experience in English language education. Her career began with an early role in accounting before she pivoted to teaching, starting in Japan. Upon returning to Australia, she taught in various private colleges and university English language centres in New South Wales and Queensland, delivering courses such as General English, IELTS preparation, Cambridge preparation, English for Academic Purposes (EAP), direct-entry programs, and Post-entry English and Academic Language (PEAL). She has conducted teacher training from Certificate IV to Masters level, worked at the University of New England in teacher training, served as an IELTS Examiner at test centres in Sydney and Brisbane, and acted as an invigilator for OET. Hancock contributed to developing and delivering an innovative online transnational English for Specific Academic Purposes unit at Southern Cross University. She engages with leading Australian organizations including NEAS, English Australia, and University English Centres Australia (UECA), and supervises TESOL student placements.
Hancock's academic interests encompass integrated assessment, academic literacies, international student belonging, and online language education, aligning with her focus on academic literacy development and teacher training. She has presented at Southern Cross University Scholarship of Learning and Teaching Symposia, including 'Innovative sustainable online language teaching' in 2020 with Sharon Leslie and Neil McRudden, and 'Getting interactive with ClickView' in 2021. Additionally, she co-authored the 2024 publication 'Interweaving employability skills in ESL/EFL university pathway programs' alongside Angela Windsor and others, exploring integrated assessments for English language readiness in pathway programs.
