2 PhD Students in the Field of Adaptive Optics
2 PhD Students in the Field of Adaptive Optics
We invite experimental physicists to conduct cutting-edge research on novel actuators and deformable mirrors. For the first time, we want to make use of single-crystal piezoelectric actuators instead of piezoceramic materials. Additional innovation encompasses the use of advanced mirror substrate materials and laser processing of mirror components to enhance optical and mechanical properties. You will develop deformable mirrors which are of interest for a wide range of applications. Current funding is for applications in gravitational wave interferometers and industrial laser materials processing. Past projects were geared towards future astronomical space telescopes and adaptive laser resonators.
You should have a solid background in optics and some experience with software such as MATLAB or Python. However, most importantly, you should enjoy delicate hands-on experimental work in a state-of-the-art laboratory.
