Faculty positions at CIBR
The Chinese Institute for Brain Research, Beijing (CIBR) (https://www.cibr.ac.cn/) aims at building a vibrant interdisciplinary research program that integrates basic neuroscience, biotechnology, computational science, and clinical research to address important questions in brain science, and to transform discoveries into products and clinical solutions for improving human health.
We are looking for highly talented, innovative, and enthusiastic scientists to fill multiple full-time research positions at all ranks (assistant investigator, associate investigator, investigator, and research fellow). We are especially interested in candidates whose research areas include, but are not limited to:
(1) Large-scale neural recording/decoding and close-loop neural modulation by designing, engineering, and deploying real-time signal decoding systems.
(2) Brain disease-related genetics, bioinformatics, and developmental biology.
(3) Brain-related medicinal chemistry in compound synthesis, chemical biology, and computer-assist modeling/drug design.
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified PI candidates should have a doctoral degree and preferably have gained productive postdoctoral training or industrial experience. Senior applicants with a well-established record of research accomplishments, scientific creativity and leadership in the externally funded and highly visible research programs are especially encouraged to apply. Research Fellow candidates with proven scientific potential should have obtained their doctoral degree within the past two years. Successful candidates are being selected based on their scientific qualifications, regardless of age, gender, nationality, or ethnicity.
The BENEFITS
CIBR provides generous start-up packages, internationally competitive salaries/benefits, and six years of stable funding that is renewable upon successful reviews by our highly accomplished international advisory committee. CIBR enjoys the truly state-of-the-art core facilities that enable and support cutting-edge biomedical and computational research and technology development. Moreover, CIBR is an internationally operated institute with an English-speaking work environment. CIBR provides strong administrative support and outstanding graduate and postdoctoral programs. CIBR will actively coordinate with PIs to support their access to relevant national programs. These resources will enable each PI to freely pursue research of long-term major impact.
WHY WORK AT CIBR
CIBR brings world-class expertise to establish a world epicenter for neuroscience and brain-inspired computation. The institute supports independent research that promises major long-term impact through a series of pioneering management practices, including a new funding plan which removes the need for frequent grant applications and instead uses an international peer-review process to appoint and promote tenure track staff.
While we are dedicated to solving complex challenges and pioneering new technologies, what makes us truly outstanding is our culture. We offer a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere where you can bring your authentic self to work, continue to grow, and build strong connections with inspiring teammates in the network of CIBR. The wonderland of CIBR is also demonstrated by a Junior Faculty Mentor Program, which provides junior faculties with expanded opportunities in developing competitive career, including, but not limited to, all the necessary components, such as intellectual development, research advancement, resource support, tenure promotion, academic networking and leadership training. The international administrative mechanism enables talents to focus on research with minimal need of routine distraction.
CIBR is located at Zhongguancun Life Science Park in northern part of Beijing, a purpose-built high-tech campus for biomedical research and pharmaceutical innovation. It offers additional opportunities to establish joint research programs with top research institutions, hospitals, as well as biotech and pharmaceutical companies. Joint graduate and postdoctoral programs with top universities including Peking University and Tsinghua University ensure the high quality of research team.
On the occasion of the fourth anniversary, we have built up a team of 28 PIs and 400+ staff, as well as the 10 state-of-the-art established core facilities that provide customized technical solutions for cutting-edge biomedical and computational research. In a few months, we will move into CIBR phase II building, which will accommodate 50 internationally-selected PIs and >1000 researchers in the 60,000 m2 research space.
DOCUMENTS FOR APPLICATION
Applicants for PI and Research Fellow positions should submit a CV, a statement of research interests & future plan (three pages), and have at least three letters of recommendation sent to the CIBR Search Committee. Review of applications is ongoing, and will continue until the available positions are filled.
