The Department of Public Health Sciences invites applicants for a 9-month, Full-time, Tenure-Track, Assistant/Associate Professor of Public Health position. The position begins in August 2026.

The Department of Public Health Sciences (DPHS), part of the College of Health Sciences, advances public health as both a scientific discipline and a practice-based profession. Our program offerings include a Bachelor of Science in Public Health, an EHAC-accredited Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health Science, and a CEPH-accredited Master of Public Health (MPH), among other undergraduate, minor, and certificate programs. DPHS faculty engage in research, community partnerships, and innovative pedagogy that integrate classroom learning with applied practice experiences. The faculty position involves teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in public health. Courses may be offered in-person, online, and/or hybrid modalities, depending on department needs. The ideal candidate will use innovative teaching skills and demonstrate strong attention to the learning and teaching needs of the department's students. Their experience, substantive specialization, and pedagogical training will serve to strengthen the department's mission and vision. The faculty will collaborate with other departmental and college faculty and staff to ensure student success. The candidate is a dynamic teacher-scholar with both practice-based experience and research expertise in public health that complements the department's mission.

This is a full-time, 9-month appointment. There is potential for summer and winter session instructional opportunities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate public health courses (e.g., Health Behavior, Research Methods, Health Equity, Internship, and Environmental Health) in approved modalities. Additional courses may be assigned based on area of specialization depending on department needs
  • Develop and sustain a program of research and scholarly activities that leads to peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and external funding
  • Mentor students in research and scholarly activities, applied learning experiences, and professional development
  • Advise students and support student success
  • Engage in service to the department, college, university, public health profession, and community
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate in Public Health or a closely related discipline. ABD may be considered - must be completed by August 2026
  • Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate level course in public health or a closely related discipline
  • Ability to teach three or more of the following courses:
    • ENV 102 Humans and the Environment
    • HEA 276 Achieving Health Equity
    • HEA 330 Health Behavior
    • HEA 419 Research Methods in Health
    • HEA 418 Preparation for Internship and Professional Practice Seminar
    • HEA 421 Internship
  • Demonstrated record of practice in public health or closely related discipline
  • Active program of empirical research with peer-reviewed publication(s)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Earned MPH/MS from a CEPH-accredited program; and/or
  • Experience teaching in multiple modalities (i.e., face-to-face, online, hybrid); and/or
  • Experience with innovative, high-impact, and inclusive teaching practices; and/or
  • Professional practice experience in areas such as Health Behavior, Epidemiology, Health Services Research, or Population Health Analytics; and/or
  • Experience mentoring students in research or applied practice experiences
