The Sustainability Office of the University of A Coruña is seeking to recruit a Sustainability Technician to lead awareness-raising, participation, and environmental engagement programs linked to the UDC-Alcoa Project "A Mariña Sustentable" (hereinafter, "the Project"), which is being implemented in the Mariña Lucense region.
The successful candidate should have a versatile profile with technical and analytical capabilities in the fields of waste management, energy engineering, and sustainable mobility. The aim is for this person not only to implement awareness campaigns but also to ensure their technical rigor through data analysis and the preparation of the corresponding reports and documentation
Duties and Responsibilities
The selected candidate will collaborate in the tasks and activities required for the implementation of the agreement managed by the Sustainability Office. These will include:
- Coordination, preparation, and monitoring of the activities developed under the agreement in the field of environmental sustainability.
- Support in the preparation and monitoring of technical and financial reports.
- Organization of promotional and dissemination events; analysis of sustainability rankings; design and implementation of awareness activities related to water and energy savings, waste management and circular economy indicators, sustainable mobility programs, and ecological and carbon footprints.
- Outreach activities at the University and in educational centers throughout the Mariña Lucense region (workshops, conferences, training sessions, etc.)

REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICANTS AND ASSESSMENT OF MERITS
A) ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS. Maximum score: 20 points
Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences, Biology, Architecture, Engineering, or related qualifications and specializations combining environmental management and sustainability with the required analytical and scientific-technical skills.
Academic records will be assessed according to the average grade on a 10-point scale. For applicants holding a Bachelor's Degree (Licenciatura) or equivalent qualification, the average grade will account for 100% of the score in this section. For applicants holding an undergraduate degree or diploma, the average grade will account for 80% of the total score, while an Official Master's Degree in Environmental Studies, Sustainability, or Project Management will account for the remaining 20%.
The average grade will be multiplied by two. The maximum score in this section is 20 points.
Note: If the academic transcript does not include the average grade on a 10-point scale, applicants must also submit an official average-grade declaration using the corresponding standardized form. Failure to provide this document will result in a default score of 5 points for this section.
B) PROFESSIONAL AND RESEARCH EXPERIENCE. Maximum score: 17 points
Professional and research achievements related to waste management, energy, efficiency, and mobility will be assessed. Other types of professional experience will not be considered.
1. Research Grants and Training Contracts. Maximum score: 4 points
Only grants and contracts awarded through public competitive calls will be considered, including: University Teacher Training Program (FPU), Research Personnel Training Program (FPI), Xunta de Galicia predoctoral and postdoctoral grants, Ramón y Cajal, Beatriz Galindo, Juan de la Cierva, and equivalent programs.
Applicants will receive 1.5 points per year of grant or contract. For contracts lasting less than one year, the score will be calculated proportionally.
2. Predoctoral and Postdoctoral Research Stays. Maximum score: 2 points
Only stays carried out at prestigious institutions will be considered, provided that the applicant had a contractual relationship with a university or research institution, or that the stay was undertaken through a specific research mobility funding program.
To be assessed, the stay must have lasted at least fifteen days.
A score of 0.2 points per month (or proportional fraction) will be awarded.
Supporting documentation: Authorization from the home institution, invitation letter from the host institution, and certificate confirming completion of the stay.
3. Participation in Research Projects, Agreements, or Contracts. Maximum score: 2 points
Participation in research projects, agreements, or contracts related to the field of the position and regulated under Article 83 of the Spanish Universities Act (LOU) or Article 60 of the Organic University System Act (LOSU) will be assessed as follows:
- Member of a project team with funding up to €10,000: 0.3 points per agreement.
- Funding exceeding €10,000: 0.75 points for every additional €10,000.
Supporting documentation: Certificate issued by the relevant academic authority specifying the project, agreement or contract title, funding institution, amount of funding, and type of participation.
4. Knowledge Transfer and Dissemination Activities. Maximum score: 4 points
A maximum of four achievements may be submitted.
Patents, intellectual property registrations, technological developments, the creation of technology-based companies or spin-offs, and other transfer and dissemination activities will be considered. In relevant disciplines, this may include curating or organizing exhibitions, preparing technical reports, and developing unique architectural or engineering projects.
A maximum of 1 point may be awarded per achievement.
Supporting documentation: Certificates issued by the relevant organizations.
5. Professional Experience. Maximum score: 5 points
Only experience related to Environmental Sciences, Biology, Architecture, Engineering, or related areas combining environmental management, sustainability, and the required analytical and scientific-technical skills will be assessed.
The maximum score will be 2 points per year of full-time employment. Part-time employment or periods shorter than one year will be assessed proportionally.
Supporting documentation: Social security employment history report, contracts, and certificates describing the professional activity carried out, including positions held and duties performed. For internships, a certificate issued by the university must be provided.
C) LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY. Maximum score: 10 points
- English language proficiency (official certification required):
- B2 level: 3 points
- C1 level: 5 points
- C2 level: 7 points
- Only the highest-level certificate will be considered.
Galician language proficiency (official certification required):
- CELGA 4 certificate or equivalent: 3 points
- CELGA 3 certificate or equivalent: 2 points
Only the highest-level certificate will be considered.
D) SPECIFIC TRAINING IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS. Maximum score: 28 points
D1) Environmental Education and Sustainability Pedagogy
Courses in environmental education, sustainability-oriented educational program design, education for sustainable development, or environmental workshop facilitation in schools or communities: 1 point per 10 hours of training. Maximum: 4 points.
D2) Energy Management, Energy Savings, and Energy Transition
Courses in energy management and efficiency, energy audits, renewable energy sources, and energy transition in educational or municipal settings: 1 point per 10 hours of training. Maximum: 4 points.
D3) Sustainable Mobility and Safe School Routes
Courses on designing and managing sustainable mobility plans, active mobility, safe school routes, and mobility diagnostics: 1 point per 10 hours of training. Maximum: 4 points
D4) Circular Economy, Carbon Footprint, and Waste Management
Courses on carbon/ecological footprint calculation, circular economy, school/community composting, and waste management: 1 point per 10 hours of training. Maximum: 4 points.
D5) Citizen Participation and Environmental Communication
Courses on environmental communication, participatory process management, group facilitation, and community engagement: 1 point per 10 hours of training. Maximum: 4 points.
D6) Data Analysis and Database Management
Advanced Excel, statistics, and data management courses: 1 point per 10 hours of training. Maximum: 4 points.
D7) Web Content Management and Social Media
Community Management and digital communication courses: 1 point per 10 hours of training. Maximum: 4 points.
E) PERSONAL INTERVIEW. Maximum score: 25 points
Applicants will be interviewed to assess their technical competence, communication skills, and teamwork abilities.
A practical exercise may be proposed during the interview to evaluate technical expertise.
Part of the interview will be conducted in English.
Based on compliance with the requirements and the assessment of merits, applicants will be ranked in order of priority. The position will be awarded to the candidate obtaining the highest score.
The remaining candidates will be included in a reserve list, strictly following the ranking established through the assessment of merits. This list will be used exclusively for these positions in the event that the selected candidate declines the offer, resigns, or leaves the position.
The minimum score required to be included on the reserve list will be 30 points, calculated from sections A, B, C, and D. Therefore, the score obtained in the interview (Section E) will not be taken into account for inclusion in the reserve list. This criterion will also apply when determining whether the position should be declared vacant.
