Job Description
The Academic Advisor I provides direct academic advising services to undergraduate students. This entry-level role supports student development through one-on-one advising, outreach, and coordination of academic support services under general supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Advisement: Advise assigned undergraduate student on academic planning, course registration, and university policies and procedures
- Career alignment: Assist students in identifying educational and career goals, ensuring alignment with major and career outcomes
- Academic monitoring: Monitor and provide proactive intervention for at-risk students; outreach to identify students struggling with coursework
- Student records: Maintain accurate advising notes and student records in advising systems; assist student in navigating planning tools and creation of graduation plan
- Campus support: Assist with Advising & Registration (A&R), recruitment, retention, and outreach programs and events; provide assigned department support
- Student involvement & success: Make referrals to appropriate student support campus resources; be knowledgeable of campus organizations and opportunities, promoting student involvement
- Attend team meetings and engage in professional development activities to support continuous learning and growth
Shift
This position is primarily office based with occasional evening or weekend events
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in education, counseling, student affairs or related field
- 0-2 years of relevant experience in academic advising or student support services
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Basic understanding of degree requirements and academic policies
Anticipated Hiring Range
The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $42,500-$45,000 annually.
Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
