Academic Coordinator II - Food Policy Lab, Institute for Health Policy Studies

The Academic Coordinator will oversee research and professional development programs for the Food Policy Lab, based at the UCSF Institute for Health Policy Studies. This work requires understanding the commercial determinants of health, food industry behavior, nutrition science pertaining to ultra-processed foods, food insecurity, data sources that describe the food system, and current policy issues. The coordinator will serve as project manager for multiple research projects, overseeing staff and scheduling of meetings, ensuring all components of the research are completed properly, and directly conducting research as needed. This role requires a great deal of independence and proactive management of the team.

The coordinator will have direct staff supervision responsibility and lead staff recruitment, onboarding, mentoring, and professional development. The coordinator will have indirect oversight of staff and students from other units who are collaborating on specific projects.

The coordinator will directly communicate with research sponsors, ensuring relationships with projects officers are maintained. The coordinator will be involved in identifying new opportunities for extramural funding, developing proposals, and communicating with funding organizations throughout the process.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in public health, public policy, business, or related field.
  • Strong personnel management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills including both writing and verbal communication.
  • Knowledge of national and state datasets commonly used to study food systems and policy.
  • Understanding of data management and analysis methods, as well as software (Stata, SAS, and/or R).
  • Experience conducting literature reviews and synthesizing literature to develop project proposals and project plans.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience in project management, working independently.

See Table 36 Level II for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $84,246 - $164,103.
