The School of Public Health at Samford University invites applicants interested in serving in a Christian university environment to apply for the position of Assistant Professor and Director of MPH Program in the Department of Public Health. This tenure track faculty position is a 12-month appointment and will begin in August 2026. We seek a dynamic, interdisciplinary educator and scholar with expertise in behavioral and community health, leadership development, program planning, and applied public health practice. The ideal candidate will contribute to teaching, mentoring, scholarship, and service in support of a public health program.
The School of Public Health is housed in the College of Health Sciences to include the Moffett and Sanders School of Nursing, McWhorter School of Pharmacy, and School of Health Professions. The College offers multiple degree programs and majors within the health sciences with a focus on inter-professional education that reflects today’s team approach to health care delivery and professional practice. The Department of Public Health in the School of Public Health offers 7-degree programs and 1 minor through an interprofessional curriculum. Qualifications/special skills/training/experience desired:
Qualified candidates will hold a doctoral degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, Behavioral Science, Health Communication, Healthcare Administration, Healthcare Analytics, or a closely related applied field from an institutionally accredited university (or equivalent) or be an ABD (All but Dissertation) candidate who will have their doctoral degree in hand by July 31, 2026. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, practice-based learning, scholarship, and service to the community, university, and discipline. Candidates should have knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas: public health program planning and evaluation, health leadership and workforce development, community-based participatory research, behavioral health promotion, or health communication. Expertise in data analytics, applied biostatistics, and data-informed decision-making is strongly preferred. Experience mentoring graduate students and supervising applied public health capstone or practicum experiences is highly desirable. Experience with the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accreditation processes is preferred but not required. Certification as a Health Data Analyst (CHDA) or a related credential is a plus. If ABD at employment start date, then rank will be at Instructor level at a commensurate salary.
