Academic Neurologist – Movement Disorders

The Department of Neurology at the University of Missouri – Columbia is seeking a full-time fellowship-trained Movement Disorders Neurologist to join our vibrant and growing multi-specialty Neurology practice. We routinely treat patients with Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, dystonia, and other movement disorders.

This is an excellent career opportunity for candidates just starting their careers, as well as experienced candidates to join a thriving academic neurology department. Join our group of two Movement neurologists and two functional neurosurgeons as we expand our clinical offerings and practice models, and recruit clinician scientists. Clinical and some didactic teaching is expected, and the opportunity to precept in resident clinic is available. We also provide opportunities to participate in MER in the OR.

Opportunity Details:

  • Join a department of 30+ physicians and neuroscientists
  • Strong collaborations with Neurosurgery, PM&R, Physical and Occupational Therapy, and Primary Care
  • Opportunities to assist in the department's growth, the education of medical students and residents, and pursuit of other academic/research interests.
  • 7T MRI with clinical as well as research use
  • No inpatient or night call
  • Practice Schedule M-F 8 AM-5 PM
  • All ranks available commensurate with experience
  • Additional leadership opportunities are available commensurate with interest and experience including outpatient clinic medical director
  • Opportunity and interest for fellowship creation over time

As the largest Neurologic Care Team in mid-Missouri, the department's facilities include:

  • A dedicated 28-bed Neurosciences Center with 6 bed EMU
  • 30-bed Neurosciences ICU
  • AANEM Lab Accreditation with Exemplary Status
  • NAEC Level IV Epilepsy program
  • DNV-Certified Comprehensive Stroke Center
  • Certified MDA/ALS clinics
  • An accredited Sleep Program
  • Outpatient infusion center

Our academic programs include a neurology residency program and the following six ACGME-accredited neurology fellowship programs:

  • Clinical Neurophysiology
  • Endovascular Surgical Neuroradiology (dual UCNS certification)
  • Sleep Medicine
  • Advanced Sleep Medicine
  • Vascular Neurology
  • Neuro Critical Care (dual UCNS certification)

About MU Neurology:

MU Department of Neurology offers comprehensive and multidisciplinary care in areas such as epilepsy, sleep disorders, movement disorders, neuromuscular diseases, comprehensive cerebrovascular disease, neurological intensive critical care, and headache. In addition, we have expertise in various subspecialty areas, including pediatric neurology, neuro-ophthalmology, neuropathology, neuro-rehab, and multiple sclerosis.

In addition to clinical opportunities, NextGen Precision Health, MU Center for Translational Neuroscience and Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory offers a vast array of academic and research opportunities. Currently, there are established basic and translational research programs with 30+ clinical trials in Neurology.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: DO or MD medical degree; board-certified or board-eligible in neurology; residency trained; licensed or willing to obtain a license to practice in Missouri.

Preferred: Candidates will be evaluated on: interest in general neurology and open to sub-specialty in MS, Headache management, Neuromuscular disease, or Dementia care.
