"Academic Position in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology"

DescriptionThis position is part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).

Remuneration for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and based on the income scale of the six-step Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP).

The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenured or tenure-track appointment with the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement and offers a comprehensive benefits package.

The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS), invites applications for an academic position within the Division of Pediatric Immunology, Hematology/Oncology, Palliative Care and Environmental Health (iHOPE) in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta. This position is a part of the Alberta Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP).

This full-time (1.0 FTE), tenure-track (contingent) position comprises approximately 40-50% time for clinical service and 50-60% time for academic pursuits, divided between research, teaching, and administrative duties (negotiable). The successful candidate will contribute to education at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including the Royal College-accredited subspecialty training program in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology.

Position Responsibilities

• Clinical Excellence: Provide inpatient and outpatient care to Pediatric Oncology patients with a primary focus on Pediatric Neuro-Oncology, if qualifications support this, as part of a multidisciplinary team at the Stollery Children’s Hospital, Alberta Health Services.
• Participate equitably in after-hours on-call coverage.
• Education and Mentorship: Teach and mentor learners at all levels in clinical and academic settings.
• Research Contribution: Conduct impactful research in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and engage with the Women and Children’s Health Research Institute (WCHRI), which provides a robust infrastructure for research excellence in women’s and children’s health.
• Collaboration and Engagement: Work closely with other programs, interdisciplinary teams, and healthcare professionals to advance Pediatric Hematology/Oncology care and the education of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology trainees.

QualificationsInterested applicants must have:

• MD degree (or equivalent)
• Minimum 1 year of advanced research training. Master's Degree or PhD completion would be preferred.
• Completed subspecialty training in Pediatrics and subspecialty training in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.
• Certified or eligible to become a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Pediatric Hematology/Oncology).
• Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).

Considered an asset:

• Neuro-Oncology fellowship training or several years of experience in the field

The successful applicant will join the IHOPE (Immunology, Hematology, Oncology, and Palliative Care) division, which includes eight pediatric oncologists as well as pediatric hematology, immunology, and palliative care subspecialists, basic scientists, and the Northern Alberta Children’s Cancer Program. We have an active basic and clinical science program, with collaborations locally, nationally, and internationally. The Northern Alberta Children's Cancer Program sees patients from across Northern Alberta, Northern British Columbia, and the Northwest Territories. Our program is an active contributor to the Children's Oncology Group and other cooperative clinical group trials. We have a Royal College accredited subspecialty training program in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology. Our program is well supported by all pediatric subspecialties within the Stollery, including experienced pediatric surgeons, pediatric radiologists, pediatric radiation oncologists, and pediatric pathologists.

About WCHRIThe Women and Children’s Health Research Institute (WCHRI) supports researchers within the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry and Alberta Health Services. With a focus on advancing women’s, children’s, and perinatal health, WCHRI provides extensive resources for faculty conducting research in these areas.
