Salary Range: Up to $36,700 annualized, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.

Job Summary
The Access Control Assistant I provides journeyman level skills in the repair, replacement and maintenance of electronic locks, hardware, and access systems. This role assists in the installation, repair, and maintenance of security equipment. Responsible for installing, repairing, maintaining and inspecting physical and technical security equipment.
Core Responsibilities
- Duplicates and generates original keys by code.
- Combinates conventional and interchangeable core lock cylinders.
- Inspects, installs, adjusts, repairs and maintains door locks and electronic access control systems.
- Rekeys locks; rebuilds cylinders and lock sets.
- Advises faculty and staff on physical security systems.
- Assists in the installation, maintenance and repair of all security systems including access control systems, alarm systems, panic alarms, and security systems data communications equipment.
- Performs routine preventative maintenance on all security systems.
- Researches and recommends equipment for upgrades or replacement.
- Cleans and maintains machinery and equipment.
- Maintains key records in a database.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two (2) years of skilled journeyman level experience as a locksmith OR two years of experience working with security/access control systems.
Additional education may substitute for experience on a one year for one year basis. - FBI background check.
- Must be eligible to work in secure and/or restricted-access facilities and demonstrate the ability to meet all compliance standards, including those mandated by grant funding agencies and site-specific security protocols.
- This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical training as a locksmith or in commercial security systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of DSX software or other access control software.
- Experience with electronic door hardware.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong level of proficiency with Microsoft Suite.
- Tools and equipment typical of a locksmith and door hardware.
Working Conditions
- Normal office conditions.
- Occasional exposure to weather and outdoor elements.
- Occasional evening and weekend hours.
- May be required to be on-call.
Physical Demands
- Physical ability to sit, walk, kneel, bend, crawl and climb.
- Medium: Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
This position will work primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
This position is contingent upon a successful background check. Verification of a valid driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) may be completed as applicable. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
