The Accommodative Testing Professional facilitates approved testing accommodations to students with disabilities who are qualified for services as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Reports To: Director Of Accessibility Services

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution with one year of professional level experience working with persons with disabilities OR completed Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with two years of professional level experience working with persons with disabilities.
  • One year of experience using standard desktop computer application software and operating systems (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.).

Professional level experience is defined by the Colorado Division of Human Resources: A position that involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, or sharing an organized body of knowledge. Colorado revised statute (C.R.S. 24-50-135(1) allows colleges to exempt positions from the State Personnel Classified System that are determined to be professional level work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed master's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Two or more years of documented experience working with students in higher education.
  • Experience administering accommodative tests for students with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience applying disability and privacy laws for post-secondary or secondary students.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of assistive technology.

Essential Functions

  • Implement approved testing accommodations for students with disabilities through scheduling and seeking out facilities and alternative settings for student testing.
  • Provide appropriate accommodative equipment, alternate formatting, and assistive technology.
  • Administer, proctor, and/or read/scribe course and/or placement tests with or without assistive technology.
  • Maintain security, confidentiality, and accuracy of tests, records, scoring procedures, and data collection.
  • Maintain secure, equitable, accessible, and professional testing environments.
  • Collect and maintain quantitative data to generate reports and analysis of the data in relation to program development and student needs/retention/success.
  • Resolve concerns associated with the administration of accommodative testing and the unique testing needs of students with disabilities.
  • Consult with the director or the assistant director regarding procedures and ADA/Section 504 accessibility compliance issues.
  • Assist all department staff with general office duties to include the delivery, implementation, tracking, research, and reporting of services/accommodations.
  • Work with the office staff to schedule student appointments, answer phone calls.
  • Provide cross training and staff coverage.
  • Participate in program reviews and the development of procedural guidelines and in-service training.
  • Facilitate the implementation of approved accommodations by establishing and maintaining communication among students, faculty, and staff.
  • Consult with campus and community resources to identify and address accessibility issues regarding testing, and refer students to department/campus/community resources.
  • Assist with the process of hiring and training student staff or administrative staff.

  • Ability to navigate differences effectively and respectfully in the workplace.
  • Ability to work with persons with multiple disabilities.
  • Must be able to accurately decode/spell terminology over a broad range of post-secondary academic disciplines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in a broad range of subjects.
  • Familiarity with current accessibility and confidentiality regulations.
  • Current knowledge of the advancement of assistive technology.
  • Strong conflict resolution and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to provide training and information to students/faculty/staff/community partners.
  • Work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to travel between campuses as needed and work variable schedules based on departmental needs.
