Accounts Payable Accountant
OVERVIEW
This is a 2 year fixed term position.
The expected pay range for this position is $89,192 to $97,000 per annum.

Financial Management Services (FMS), a department within Business Affairs, is responsible for creating an ecosystem which promotes innovative and sound financial administration policies and practices that balance controls, compliance, and customer service. FMS is primarily responsible for financial policy oversight, quality assurance and financial services at Stanford University and its affiliated entities. It also serves as a liaison to the hospitals and the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC). JOB PURPOSE
The Accounts Payable Accountant will perform payable processes such as invoice processing, data analysis and complete exception handling resolution under the general direction of the Accounts Payable Manager. We are seeking an individual who is motivated and able to pay close attention to work details to join our outstanding team as an Accounts Payable Accountant. This position will perform moderately complex accounting activities and operations responsibilities, including monitoring various accounting activities, account reconciliations and reviews.
CORE DUTIES
- Validate and process invoices applying various compliance requirements including state and federal tax compliance rules.
- Perform daily oversight of AP transactions from various sources by utilizing financial reports from multiple systems and Oracle ERP.
- Prioritize and resolve issues and recognize exceptions. Perform analysis and recommend solutions in a timely manner.
- Performs system testing related to process improvements, system upgrades and enhancements and production support.
- Contribute to development and maintenance of desktop procedures and process documentation for area of responsibility.
- Prioritize, and resolve Payable issues; probe beyond stated situation; identify underlying issues; recognize exceptions; perform preliminary analysis; escalate broader issues.
- Partner with the Financial Support Center and other departments or teams to resolve inquiries and transactions within the defined SLA.
- May train, coach and be involved in educational presentations to campus, as needed.
- Understand and participate in cross training on core functions in work area or unit; serve as a back-up to other functions

Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance or relevant experience in Finance/Accounting desired, plus two years of applicable experience, or combination of education and relevant work experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite, Excel.
- Demonstrated experience of financial systems, internet and computer literacy.
- Understanding of and ability to apply accounting skills and concepts.
- Accounts payable full cycle experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to prepare materials for and clearly and effectively communicate information to internal audiences and client groups.
- Ability to learn project management skills and to participate as part of a project team.
- Understanding of and ability to apply accounting skills and concepts.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Demonstrated project management skills and ability to contribute as part of a project team.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*
- Primarily perform desk-based computer tasks.
- Frequently sit, sort, file paperwork or parts, grasp lightly, and use fine manipulation, lift, carry, push and pull objects that weigh 10 pounds or less.
- Occasionally write by hand, twist, bend, stoop and squat.
- Position may require driving to Stanford main campus
