ACE Advisor

The ACE (Advancing Completion through Engagement) Advisor at SUNY Oneonta plays a vital role in supporting student success by providing individualized academic and personal support to a cohort of students enrolled in the ACE program. This position is centered on fostering meaningful relationships, helping students navigate academic pathways, and connecting them with key resources to ensure persistence and timely graduation.

SUNY Oneonta's ACE program is part of a statewide initiative designed to support student persistence and timely degree completion through a structured, high-touch support model.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Offering personalized guidance on course selection, academic planning, and progression to ensure students meet their educational goals.
  • Assisting students in overcoming personal, financial, and academic obstacles by connecting them with appropriate campus and community resources.
  • Developing and facilitating workshops on topics such as study skills, time management, career exploration, and financial literacy.
  • Tracking student performance, maintaining detailed records, and implementing interventions as needed to promote student success.
  • Working closely with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to coordinate support services and advocating for student needs.
  • Participating in the recruitment of new students, including virtual information sessions, tabling at recruitment events, and assisting in orientation sessions to acclimate students to the program.
  • Staying informed about best practices in academic advising and student support through ongoing professional development.
  • Working occasional evenings or weekends as required to support peak operational needs.

Salary: $57,151. SUNY Oneonta is a Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) qualifying employer.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience working with students in an advising capacity.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.
  • Effective organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to comfortably work with students both individually and in group settings.
  • Strong commitment to supporting a diverse student population and enhancing student success.
  • Proficiency in advising and student information systems or related software.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in counseling, education, social work, psychology, or a related field.
  • Experience organizing and facilitating workshops focused on student success.
  • Two or more years of experience providing academic advising.
  • Familiarity with financial aid and/or career counseling.
  • Experience using Degree Works, Navigate, and Banner.
  • Bilingual (Spanish preferred).
