Primary Purpose of the Organization
The Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle Grades, Reading, and Special Education in the College of Education at Fayetteville State University invites applications for a full-time, fixed-term faculty position at the Adjunct Assistant Professor level, beginning Fall 2026. This is a non-tenure-track position.
The successful candidate will hold an earned doctorate in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field from an accredited university. A minimum of three years of successful K–6 teaching experience is required.
Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses, assessing student learning outcomes, and participating in departmental, college, and accreditation activities as assigned by the Dean and Department Chair. The candidate is expected to uphold academic standards, demonstrate effective use of educational technology and digital learning tools, engage in scholarly and professional activities, and show a strong commitment to excellence in public higher education and teacher preparation.
Primary Purpose of the Position
- Prepare course syllabi, deliver face-to-face and/or online instruction, design and grade assessments, and utilize technology-based instructional methods as needed to meet program and enrollment goals.
- Maintain regular on-campus office hours for student consultation and provide timely academic support by appointment as needed.
- Teach a standard load of four (4) three-credit-hour courses each fall and spring semester.
- Participate in departmental, college, and university activities, including committee service, that advance the mission and quality of academic programs.
- Attend department, college, and university meetings as required.
- Engage in various required university activities and initiatives that support institutional goals and faculty development.
- Maintain current knowledge and expertise within the assigned academic disciplines.
- Engage in service and professional activities relevant to the faculty member’s area of specialization and aligned with the university’s mission.
- Contribute data and documentation to support program and institutional accreditation processes as requested.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- The candidate must have an earned doctorate in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field from an accredited university.
- A minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in K–6 education is required.
Knowledge skills and abilities
The incumbent will further be expected to play an active role in the maintenance of academic standards, show evidence of knowledge of and the ability to use educational technology and digital teaching and learning; show evidence of scholarly activity; and display a commitment to public higher education.
Preferred Qualifications
- The ideal candidate will have experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Elementary Education, including methods of teaching social studies, mathematics, language arts, science, and/or reading.
- Additional preferred qualifications include evidence of mentoring undergraduate students, providing service to the department, college, and university, and engaging in research, grant writing, and other scholarly activities.
- The candidate should demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education and a passion for preparing highly effective teachers.
- A record of professional and community engagement is also expected.
