The Early College program is located at Ben Davis University High School, an endorsed Early College in the MSD of Wayne Township Schools on the west side of Indianapolis. BDU has a supportive small school environment with 430 students who must apply, interview, and are accepted and start the program in grade 9. BDUHS only has grades 10-12 and has celebrated 100% & 99% graduation rates for the past eleven years in which students earned both their Academic & Technical Honors Diploma and their Associate Degree.

Role Summary

The Adjunct Instructor – Biology is an Exempt Professional Staff position that teaches Biology Dual-Credit courses to students in the Vincennes University Early College program located at Ben Davis University High School. The instructor is responsible for assigned sections of Biology, or other assigned courses offered through Vincennes University but located at the early college site. This is a FACE-TO-FACE position and NOT a virtual position. Scheduled courses would be on M, W, F, and would currently only run fall semesters only.

Responsibilities

  • Provide effective instruction and assessment of course objectives to Early College students in assigned sections BIOL 100, BIOL 100L, and any other assigned courses offered.
  • Prepare course materials for instruction and assessment as guided by campus syllabi, faculty liaison, and Early College admin.
  • Be available for an instruction schedule M, W, F, this fall.
  • Attend BDU Early College adjunct meetings at the start, middle, and end of the year.
  • Participate in required yearly professional development.
  • Utilize various learning management platforms for attendance, grades, and other procedures.
  • Serve on departmental and University-wide committees.
  • Participate in recruitment and retention activities.
  • Participate in program assessment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Your Qualifications Essential

  • Meet traditional credentialing requirements of either a Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in Biology; or a Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in Biology related coursework.
  • Ability to foster a positive learning environment for students.
  • Commitment and desire to go above and beyond to serve our diverse community.
  • Must be a local candidate as this is a face-to-face position.

  • Years of experience in a specific field

Supplemental Skills / Experience

  • Experience in teaching in the K-12 or post-secondary setting is preferred but not required.
  • Additional education/training
  • Experience teaching at the college level
  • Experience using Banner, Blackboard LMS, Simple Syllabus, and Degree Works
