Adjunct Instructor of Music for the Fall 2026 semester only

Job Description

Bellarmine University's Music Department seeks a part-time, adjunct faculty member to conduct a pop acapella SATB ensemble and an advanced classical SATB choir for the 2026-2027 academic year (Fall semester only). This position calls for a skilled musician in the art of conducting choral ensembles and vocal development of collegiate voices. This is a part-time role that involves collaboration with the Director of Performing Arts and Vocal Music Area at Bellarmine.

Choir rehearsals are in-person on our campus, on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 3:00-4:30pm. There are 1-3 performances each semester, including a Lessons & Carols service in collaboration with the Office of Campus Ministry. Occasionally, other on-campus performances/events may be requested by campus constituents.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Music (required) and a master's degree preferred, with an emphasis in choral conducting (preferred)
  • Experience working with singers at various stages of vocal development and musicianship (required)
  • Experience leading a collegiate choir (preferred)
  • Creative programming of choral repertoire (required)
  • Demonstrate artistic experience as both solo and ensemble vocal performing artist (preferred)
  • Piano skills necessary to lead and accompany choir and sectional rehearsals (preferred)

Duties

Deliver instruction:

  • Conduct assigned curriculum.
  • Prepare weekly rehearsal plans.
  • Provide course syllabi, which include grading standards, attendance policies, classroom behavior expectations, course outline, and contact information.
  • Verify student enrollment and submit grades on time.

Evaluate student progress:

  • Keep an accurate record of student performance.
  • Provide students with timely, constructive feedback.

Maintain virtual and/or in-person office hours to meet with students as needed.

Maintain voicemail and email communication.

Refer students to student support services when necessary.

Other duties as assigned that pertain to the job description.
