Location: Holland, MI

Grand Rapids Community College Department of Language and Thought is seeking a dedicated Adjunct Instructor to teach Communication Studies winter semester at our Lakeshore campus. Classes are offered in person and are scheduled:

COM 131 - Fundamentals of Public Speaking - Tuesday and Thursday, 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

COM 131 - Fundamentals of Public Speaking - Monday and Wednesday 11:15 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.

COM 135 - Interpersonal Communication - Monday and Wednesday 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

COM 135 - Interpersonal Communication - Tuesday and Thursday 11:15 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Teach GRCC course offering(s) in Communication Studies.
  • Teach courses and fulfill adjunct faculty responsibilities, including fostering a stimulating classroom environment, following syllabus templates, and using department-approved textbooks.
  • Maintain accurate student records and provide reasonable accommodations as per ADA guidelines as approved by Disability Support Services to meet students' needs.
  • Respond to communications promptly and ensure student access to course information.
  • Perform tasks normally expected of adjunct faculty members
  • Follow the required syllabus template.
  • Comply with GRCC policies and the Faculty Association Contract.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Communication Studies.
  • Teaching experience at a community college preferred.

Skills

  • Expertise in the subject area with strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse student populations and faculty, and proficiency in instructional technology and learning management systems (e.g.,Gmail, Canvas, Blackboard).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Physical Demands

  • Some evening work (grading, preparing for class, responding to email questions) will be needed.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.

  • Strong initiative, problem-solving, and ability to handle unexpected duties.
  • High energy and enthusiasm for supporting students and colleagues under pressure.
