About the Role:
The Counseling Program at Northern Kentucky University invites
applications on an ongoing basis from qualified professionals
interested in serving as part-time adjunct faculty. Applications
will be maintained in a pool of prospective instructors and
reviewed as instructional needs arise. Inclusion in the applicant
pool does not guarantee a teaching assignment.
The Counseling Program offers CACREP-accredited graduate
programs/specializations in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and
School Counseling. Adjunct faculty may be considered to teach
in-person graduate courses in either specialization, including
knowledge- and skills-based courses as well as courses involving
clinical supervision, such as practicum and internship. Course
assignments are based on program needs, candidate qualifications,
areas of expertise, and availability.
Primary Responsibilities
Adjunct faculty are expected to:
- Teach assigned graduate counseling courses in accordance with
university and program policies and applicable CACREP accreditation
standards.
Facilitate student learning through effective instruction,
engagement, feedback, and assessment.
Assess student achievement of designated course and CACREP
learning outcomes.
Maintain appropriate communication with students and program
faculty.
Provide in-person office hours and be reasonable availability
to enrolled students.
For clinical courses, provide supervision and evaluate student
development in accordance with program requirements, professional
standards, and applicable accreditation requirements.
Complete required course-related documentation and assessment
activities within established program and university
timelines.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must possess:
- A master’s degree or higher in counseling, preferably from a
CACREP-accredited counseling program.
- Appropriate professional licensure or certification relevant to
the candidate’s area of practice (e.g., clinical mental health
counseling or school counseling).
- Professional experience relevant to the courses the candidate
may be assigned to teach.
- Demonstrated ability to support graduate-level student learning
and professional development.
Candidates considered for courses involving clinical supervision
must meet applicable program, professional, and CACREP requirements
for supervisors.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference may be given to candidates who possess one or more of
the following:
- A doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision,
preferably from a CACREP-accredited program.
- Previous experience teaching or co-teaching graduate counseling
courses, particularly within a CACREP-accredited program.
- Experience providing clinical supervision to counseling
students or practicing counselors.
- Current professional licensure or certification as a clinical
mental health counselor, school counselor, or other credential
appropriate to the assigned course.
- Professional expertise aligned with current program
instructional needs.
