Position Summary

The University Student Teacher Supervisor for the Science Departments represents SUNY Cortland while overseeing student teachers, facilitates a strong university-school partnership, and mentors and evaluates student teachers.

Starting Salary: $4500 per 3 credit hour course

Major Responsibilities

  • Fulfillment of all responsibilities/duties of a supervisor as outlined in the Student Teaching Handbook, department orientation, training and university communications.
  • Contact and meet with student teachers and host teachers either before or at the beginning of the student teaching placement.
  • Make regular visits, including written observation reports, and confer with each student teacher after observations.
  • Confer with each student teacher after each observation and provide both oral and written feedback during the post-observation conference.
  • Maintain regular communication with each host teacher regarding the progress of student teachers.
  • Complete evaluation work in Watermark and submit quarterly grades for student teachers.

Functional and Supervisory Relationships

Reports to the Department Chair and the Coordinator for Adolescence Education Science.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree.
  • Availability to fulfill job obligations during standard school hours (applicants with concurrent full-time commitments, including P-12 school personnel, are not eligible for the position of a SUNY Cortland student teaching supervisor).
  • Experience in secondary school settings.
  • Familiarity with New York State Teacher Certification requirements and learning standards.
  • Masters degree, previous mentoring, or supervisory experience.
  • Current or past teacher certification in Science.
