Adjunct Instructor - Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) Pediatrics Course
Position Overview
The Department of Health Sciences invites applications for a part-time Adjunct Instructor to teach HESC 0275: Occupational Science II, a pediatric-centered course within the Occupational Therapy Assistant Baccalaureate (OTA-B) Program. This course emphasizes typical and atypical development, pediatric occupational participation, service delivery models, and the OTA's role in supporting children and families across early intervention, school-based, outpatient, and medical settings.
This in-person appointment is scheduled for Spring 2026, with the possibility of additional teaching opportunities in future semesters.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality, evidence-informed instruction in pediatric occupational science, aligned with course and program objectives.
- Demonstrate current clinical expertise in pediatric occupational therapy practice relevant to the course content.
- Implement inclusive, equitable, and culturally responsive teaching strategies consistent with the University and OTA-B Program mission.
- Assess student learning using multiple evaluation methods designed to measure competency development.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to support student learning and professional growth.
- Maintain accurate grade records, documentation, and course materials in accordance with university policies.
- Utilize Brightspace (learning management system) for instructional delivery and communication.
- Hold regular office hours to support student academic success and advising needs.
- Collaborate with OTA-B faculty to maintain curriculum continuity and alignment across the program.
- Support students in applying course concepts to pediatric Level I Fieldwork expectations.
Job Requirements
Minimum Required Qualifications
1. Licensure / Regulation Requirements
- Must be a licensed Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) or Occupational Therapist (OT) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, in accordance with jurisdictional requirements for teaching OT content.
- Licensure must be maintained in good standing throughout employment.
2. Degree Requirements
- A minimum of a master's degree from a USDE-recognized accredited institution in Occupational Therapy, Health Sciences, or a related field.
3. Academic & Experiential Qualifications
- Documented, current pediatric practice expertise, directly relevant to the instructional responsibilities of Occupational Science II.
- Demonstrated experience delivering instruction that aligns with OTA curriculum design, developmental frameworks, and professional competencies.
- Experience evaluating student performance and applying effective assessment strategies in academic or clinical education settings.
4. Knowledge Requirements
- Knowledge of curriculum design and alignment with OTA professional standards.
- Ability to apply Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) principles within teaching and communication.
- Awareness of campus-based resources that support student well-being and academic success.
- Proficiency with instructional technology, including Brightspace or comparable learning management systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior higher education teaching experience, preferably within OTA or OT programs.
- Experience supervising OTA/OT students in pediatric fieldwork or clinical placements.
- Broad pediatric practice experience (i.e., early intervention, school-based services, outpatient pediatrics, acute or subacute medical pediatrics).
- Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching, mentorship, or clinical instruction.

Corequisites: HESC 0335 – OTA Practice IV; HESC 0310 – Level I Fieldwork: Pediatric Population
Salary
According to MSCA contract guidelines:
Unit Member: $2,253.60 per credit
Non-Unit Member: $1,496.73 per credit
