Adjunct Pre-Social Work/Behavioral Health & Human Services Instructor
Alexandria Technical & Community College is seeking online adjunct instructors to teach courses including Introduction to Social Work, Social Work Field Experience, Adult and Child Mental Health/Developmental Disabilities, Behavior Modification and Intervention and Human Services Professional Practices. Some on-campus work is required. We are seeking professionals who have completed formal online pedagogy training. Faculty with experience utilizing open educational resources (OER)/no cost materials and who have knowledge of Quality Matters standards preferred. Courses are scheduled to be delivered in 16-week terms. Position open until filled. Master's degree with a major in Social Work is required. Classes will start August 24, 2026.
Minimum Qualifications
Education Requirement
- Master's degree with a major in human services, social work, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, school psychology, or human development or
- Master's degree with a minimum of 16 graduate semester credits (24 graduate quarter credits) in human services, social work, clinical psychology, or counseling psychology or
- Master's degree with a major in sociology or counseling with 10 graduate semester credits (15 graduate quarter credits) in human services.
Occupational Experience Requirement
Two full-time years (or equivalent) of verified related paid work experience in human services, social work, clinical psychology, or counseling psychology.
Recency Requirement
One year of this work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field. The recency requirement shall be waived if the individual has two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) postsecondary teaching experience in the credential field within the last five years.
Teaching and Learning Competency Requirement
- Course construction (credit course)*
- Teaching/instructional methods (credit course)*
- Student outcomes assessment/evaluation (credit course)*
- Philosophy of community and technical college education (credit or non-credit course)**
- Faculty shall have a degree in education or three years of successful full-time (or equivalent) teaching experience prior to being hired, or shall be required to complete coursework in the above content areas (or their equivalent) prior to being granted unlimited status.
* These courses shall be waived for individuals who at the time of hire have: a degree in education, or have documented evidence of successful completion of equivalent coursework in the specified teaching and learning content areas, or have three years of successful, full-time (or equivalent) secondary, postsecondary, industry, or trade apprenticeship teaching experience in the field for which they are being hired.
