Adjunct Theatre - Production Manager

Position Summary

This position covers production management duties in Spring of 2026 while the faculty Production Manager is on sabbatical. This role provides technical and administrative support for three theatre productions during the spring 2026 semester. As needed, typical production management responsibilities may also involve coordinating with the Technical Director, set and properties construction, scenic shop timelines, and assisting with routine production support as well as the learning experience of students.

This position is responsible for coordinating overall production planning, ensuring production calendars and adherence to budgets. This position interacts on a regular basis with the College personnel, which includes students, faculty, administration, staff, and the guest artists. Interpersonal skills of the highest order, therefore, are essential.

The person in this position is an integral member of a relatively small faculty and staff, and as such must be flexible and work cooperatively with others. This person must be able and willing to mentor students working on production and coordinate with the Chairperson, Technical Director, and Shop Foreperson.

DESCRIPTION OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with the Department of Theatre chairperson to maintain the goals and direction of the Department Spring productions.
  • Coordinate the overall production planning and technical aspects of Department of Theatre productions.
  • Maintain the established production budget providing the best possible student experience while ensuring the most cost-effective operations possible.
  • Attend and run tech, dress, production, and design meetings, with appropriate pedagogical instruction to students as new designers and technical workers.
  • Maintain the established production calendar utilizing students and occasional over hire employees in the most cost effective and efficient manner, and collaborate with students, staff, guest artists, and faculty towards the goals of a quality theatrical production.
  • Enforce safety policies for the campus as well as enforce other theater specific safety protocols set in collaboration with the Technical Director and Chairperson and stated in the institutional and departmental guides.
  • Oversee assigned students and provide appropriate mentoring.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as appropriately assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrate understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, mental or physical disability, and religious background of all students, faculty and staff, and with all individuals encountered in the performance of required duties.
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with persons both internal and external to the College, both virtually and in person.
  • Ability to perform functions with a high degree of professionalism.
  • Ability to deal with a number of tasks concurrently, in an environment when interruptions are routine experiences, without direct supervision. This requires a person who is well organized, detail orientated, flexible, and able to efficiently establish priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills, including communication of organization and planning.
  • Knowledge of or the ability to quickly grasp and articulate the College's mission, organization, operation, performance expectations, and culture. Ability and inclination to exercise discretion with regard to confidential information and to conform to all requirements regarding release of information, being mindful of sensitive information.
  • Demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with staff, faculty, and students and visitors to the College.
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a team. Ability to manage events in a collaborative and high-quality process. Commitment to an environment that nurtures cooperation and diversity.
