Administrator, Desktop Systems
POSITION SUMMARY
The Desktop Systems Administrator is responsible and accountable for the effective lifecycle management of Le Moyne’s personal and mobile computing devices, and academic software. This includes processes and technologies associated with acquisition, inventory and asset management, imaging and installation, configuration, maintenance, renewal and disposal of computing devices and software. The Desktop Administrator supervises and coordinates the activities of student employees who support the lifecycle management activities. Actively advances and promotes Le Moyne’s mission, Catholic and Jesuit identity, and commitment to both social justice and care for the whole person
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Desktop Administration
- Actively leads the lifecycle management of Le Moyne’s personal and mobile computing devices, including device acquisition, creation of OS image and deployment of baseline system configuration, for Windows, Apple Mac OS, Google Chromebook and Apple iOS devices.
- Ensures timely and consistent distribution of software updates and security patches in accordance with departmental standards.
- Identifies, utilizes and maintains methods and technologies to promote efficient device and software configuration management.
- Effectively integrates third party hardware (e.g. printers, scanners, copiers) into Le Moyne’s personal and mobile computing environment.
- Establishes and documents best practices for the technical support of computing and mobile devices.
- Evaluates and recommends devices and software to satisfy specified requirements.
- Serves as a consultant regarding questions involving system(s) installation, configuration, and maintenance.
Application Administration
- Actively leads the end to end lifecycle management of Le Moyne’s academic software, including evaluation, testing, virtualization, distribution, and support across Windows, Apple Mac OS, Google Chromebook and Apple iOS devices.
- Utilizes established tools to manage the virtualization and distribution of assigned applications.
- Routinely audits the application portfolio to identify underutilized software for removal, and monitors applications for software updates.
- Establishes documentation surrounding application management and practices.
- Serves as a consultant regarding questions involving software installation, configuration, and maintenance.
Student Management
- Serve as primary professional staff member responsible for hiring, training, mentoring, and supervising approximately 10 student staff.
- Assist in the development of a comprehensive training program to educate Systems and Network Services student staff.
- Approves timesheets and absences for direct report(s) using the established systems.
- Schedules appropriate student staffing to support SNS team needs.
General Duties
- At all times, applies principles and practices that promote the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Le Moyne’s information and information and technology services.
- Supports the resolution of technology issues. Ensures that assigned incidents and requests are responded to and resolved in accordance with established standards.
- Collaborates on the maintenance and renewal of systems and software configuration management tools.
- Collaborates with other IT staff and Le Moyne community members on assigned projects.
- Communicates effectively in visual, oral, and written form with key constituencies.
- Continually maintains skills and knowledge relative to the position and technology industry including best practice, evolving operational requirements, and industry trends.
- Maintains a constituent centric approach at all times. Demonstrates professionalism in contacts with others.
- Engages in on-call and weekend support.
