Admissions Counselor
Position Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to function as an Admissions Counselor for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. This position will recruit and cultivate prospects, applicants, and admitted students through direct participation in a variety of activities, articulate admissions procedures and requirements to prospective students, parents and counselors, evaluate credentials and make independent decisions regarding individuals’ candidacies for admission to UNCG, and positively affect admitted students’ decisions to matriculate to UNCG.
Minimum Qualifications
- A relevant Bachelor’s degree, ability to work independently with little to no supervision, strong interpersonal skills, a valid driver’s license, ability to make research based decisions regarding the potential for success of specific recruitment initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year experience in admissions.
- Bilingual.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment (40%)
- Recruiting and cultivating prospects, applicants, and admitted students, including first generation and rural areas in NC, through direct participation in a variety of activities.
- Visit high school and community organizations to recruit prospective students.
- Attend college fairs.
- Sponsoring recruitment events and Undergraduate Admissions programs.
- Sending email, writing letters, and placing calls to students.
Counseling (25%)
- Support Latinx students and their families throughout the application enrollment process.
- Represents the University in the community.
- Providing admitted students information on completing the enrollment process and serve as a referral to assist students on and off campus as needed.
- Counseling students on how to improve their academic record and increase chance of admission.
Admissions Decisions (25%)
- Articulate admissions procedures and requirements to prospective students, parents and counselors.
- Evaluate credentials and make independent decisions regarding individuals’ candidacies for admission.
- Positively affect admitted students’ decisions to matriculate to UNCG.
