Job Description

Basic Functions and Responsibilities:

The Adult Education Transitions Coordinator is dedicated to guiding Adult Education students in successfully accessing, navigating, and transitioning into credit and career pathways. Acting as a resource liaison and providing support with the intention of ensuring credential attainment, this position works collaboratively with faculty, internal departments, and external partners. The position works closely with the Senior Manager of Adult Education and the Adult Education & Transitions Manager in the development and implementation of transition strategies and initiatives for the department.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recruits Adult Education students from upper levels of ESL, HSE/GED, and Adult Basic Education for participation in Bridge & ICAPS programs.
  • Works directly with students and faculty in Bridge & ICAPS programs to ensure successful navigation as students move in, through, and out of Adult Education and enter credit and/or vocational programs.
  • Conducts follow-up with students in Bridge & ICAPS programs to ensure they can locate and access any necessary services, such as tutoring, advisement, financial aid, etc.
  • Recommends and implements high impact practices for students that reduce opportunity gaps and increase persistence and completion.
  • Composes correspondence, delivers presentations, conducts class visits, and develops flyers and promotional material to enhance interest and recruitment for Adult Ed initiatives.
  • Identify systemic barriers to student enrollment and success via student needs assessments and collaborate with internal and external partners to develop mechanisms to overcome such barriers (workshops, group mentoring sessions, etc.).
  • Assists with the coordination, development, and implementation of appropriate student success strategies.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Adult Education program and college credit and career programs, as well as student services offices such as Admissions and Advising, Student Success and Leadership Institute, Tutoring, Financial Aid, as they relate to the transition of Adult Education students.
  • Facilitates students' goal setting process; assists students in the development of Individual Education and Career Plans compatible with their interests, needs, and skills; and provides intervention strategies at critical points of the students' educational path.
  • Develops and oversees mechanisms to track student participation and performance in Bridge, ICAPS, and transition initiatives in order to evaluate efforts and improve effectiveness.
  • Works collaboratively with faculty to support students as they enter, navigate, grow and transition in and out of Oakton. Inform both faculty and students of available resources.
  • Develops partnerships with existing campus initiatives serving traditionally underrepresented student populations (i.e. TRIO, Service Learning, Financial Aid, WIOA, Perkins, etc.) for the purpose of connecting to these available resources.
  • Represents the College in community facing events geared toward fostering student experience including entering the College.
  • Works with administrators, staff, and faculty to identify, develop and implement new Bridge, ICAPS, Bridge, and other programs targeting the transitioning of Adult Education students.
  • Serves as a member of the Commencement Committee.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Supervision Received:

Administrative supervision is received from the Adult Education and Transitions Manager.

Requirements

Qualifications and Working Conditions:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Advising, Student Life or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is required.
  • Master's degree is preferred.
  • Three years related work experience is preferred.
  • Ability to travel between campuses and offsites as needed.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to positively interact and work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and the public is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to professionally manage student confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ability to effectively use a computer and Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.

Physical Demands:

Light lifting up to 10 lbs. and light carrying up to 10 lbs. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending and stooping. Mobility to move from building to building on-Campus and to visit off-Campus entities. Work is performed in a general office environment and is sedentary in nature. Little or no exposure to adverse working conditions.

Additional Information

HOURS: Monday - Friday 8:15 am - 5:00 pm (Availability for some evenings based on department needs is required).

SALARY: $55,942

This is a temporary grant position and continued employment, is based on the successful renewal of the grant.

Based on the needs of the college and with Administrator approval, some positions at the college may have a hybrid schedule option available after 30 working days.
