Advanced Practice Professional (Nurse Practitioner) Nephrology Clinic
This is an Advanced Practice Professional (APP) job opening. Both qualified NP and PA applicants will be considered.

A total of one (1), 1.0 FTE, Advanced Practice Professional (either NP or PA) will be hired to fill this job opening.
The Division of Nephrology is currently seeking an Advanced Practice Provider for its Outpatient Nephrology Clinic in Ann Arbor. The Nephrology Clinic at the Taubman Center provides high-quality care for people with kidney disease. With our patient-first approach, we personalize care plans for their needs and comfort. You will help provide patients with access to advanced treatments and research.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Work under the supervision of the medical director and attending nephrologists to provide patient care in the outpatient nephrology clinic.
- Perform and document a detailed patient history and perform focused physical examinations.
- Work collaboratively with interprofessional teams to coordinate Plans of Care.
- Order appropriate tests & procedures, and/or making appropriate referrals.
- Coordinate care with other medical providers both inside and outside of Michigan Medicine.
- Monitor labs and assist in the development of patient-specific, facility-based disease management protocols.
- Advise patients of lab results and provide patient education.
- Participate in program QA/CQI efforts.
Organizational Relationships and Practice Environment:
- Advance Practice Professionals (APPs) will receive medical supervision from the Medicine Pulmonary Service Chief.
- Advance Practice Professionals (APPs) will receive administrative supervision from the APP Manager.
Nurse Practitioner (NP)
- Must have at least 2 years of experience working in Nephrology in either an inpatient or outpatient setting as an APP.
- Must have experience working with patients who have Chronic Kidney Disease.
- Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan
- Current specialty certification to practice as an Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, or Adult Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan.
- Graduate of an accredited nurse practitioner program.
- Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
- Current DEA registration required
- Current AHA Approved BLS certification
Physician Assistant (PA)
- Must have at least 2 years of experience working in Nephrology in either an inpatient or outpatient setting as an APP.
- Must have experience working with patients who have Chronic Kidney Disease.
- Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
- Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan
- State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required
- Current DEA registration required
- Current AHA approved BLS certification

- 2 years of Experience as an APP working in a Nephrology practice.
- Demonstrated ability to complete history and physical examinations; order appropriate diagnostic studies, synthesize information and make informed clinical decisions; develop appropriate care plans; and be responsive to patient and family preferences.
- Demonstrated excellent teaching abilities.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- The provider must demonstrate a high level of critical thinking and medical knowledge by using current medical information and scientific evidence for patient care.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate clinical care ideas across multiple patient care services and to communicate assertively as a patient advocate.
- Demonstrated ability to carry out professional responsibilities, adherence to ethical principles and sensitivity to diversity.
- Experience as participant in continuous quality improvement.
- Computer skills including but not limited to electronic medical record documentation and electronic order entry.
- EPIC/MiChart experience a plus.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the credentialing and privileging process.
Hours/Week: 40
Day Shift: Monday-Friday with the potential for weekend coverage.
Location: Ann Arbor
