Advanced Practice Professional (Physician Assistant) Rogel Cancer Center - Benign Hematology

This is an Advanced Practice Professional (APP) job opening.

Both qualified NP and PA applicants will be considered.
NPs are directed to apply to job # 272946 and PAs are directed to apply to job # 272947.

A total of one (1), 1.0 FTE Advanced Practice Professional (either NP or PA) will be hired to fill this job opening.

  • Management of a variety of hematology conditions
  • Direct care and management of patients in the outpatient setting including: performing history and physical, evaluation, development of different diagnoses, collaborating with the physician to develop a plan of care, identification of individuals eligible for clinical trials, patient and family education, counseling and support, collaboration and referral to other services and provision of education to nursing staff, students and community providers.
  • Management of treatment related toxicities
  • Symptom management and palliative care
  • Review of laboratory, pathology and radiographic test results
  • Perform bone marrow biopsies
  • Participation in hematology meetings
  • Participation in clinical research
  • Collaboration with other specialties within the Cancer Center in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs for increasing knowledge and skills
  • Collaboration with other APPs in the care of this patient population including covering for colleagues when needed
  • Participation in workshops, conferences or other CME activities pertaining to hematology
  • Attend programmatic meetings or Cancer Center meetings and occasionally attend regional or national meetings

Roles and responsibilities may be periodically adjusted as determined by the needs of the Cancer Center Clinical Program.

PA:

  • Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
  • State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required
  • Current DEA registration required
  • AHA Approved BLS
  • 2 years of APP experience
  • Clinical experience in hematology

NOTE: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the credentialing and privileging process.
NOTE: In order to be considered for this position the applicant must have met or will have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of employment

  • Procedure experience: bone marrow biopsy and/or lumbar punctures
  • Participation in clinical research
  • The ability to function independently
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills as measured by references and interview

Hours: 40 hours/week
Shift: Day shift
Location: Rogel Cancer Center, Maize Team primary with additional assignment to the Gold or Blue Cancer Center teams if needed.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Physician Assistants of Michigan Medicine, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
