Job Summary
The Section of Pediatric Colorectal Surgery in the Division of Pediatric Surgery, Department of Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine has one (1) full-time (1.0 FTE – 40 hours per week) faculty position available at the rank of Instructor for a Pediatric General Surgery Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician's Assistant (PA). Under the direction of the full-time faculty or designee, this position provides inpatient and outpatient medical care services at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) for the Pediatric Colorectal Center.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide independent, high-quality clinical care for pediatric colorectal surgery patients at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO), across inpatient and outpatient settings.
Deliver comprehensive care across multiple specialized multidisciplinary clinics, including: Weekly Spina Bifida / Spinal Cord Injury (SB/SCI) multidisciplinary clinic, Colorectal multidisciplinary clinic, Monthly SB/SCI transition of care (adolescent) clinic, Monthly SB/SCI clinic in Colorado Springs, Bowel Management clinic (including 1–2 half-day clinic sessions per month), Half-day pre-operative multidisciplinary clinic with Anesthesia, Social Work, and Psychology for medically complex patients.
Conduct outpatient telehealth visits, including: Three days per month dedicated to follow-up telehealth appointments, Additional telehealth clinic sessions, Dedicated weekly billable telehealth clinical sessions.
Participate in inpatient care management, including: Weekly inpatient patient review and care planning sessions, Coverage of the colorectal surgery (CRS) inpatient service twice a week, Responsibilities including rounding, writing orders, admissions, discharges, care coordination, patient assessment, and education.
Support specialized programmatic care delivery, including: Active participation in the monthly bowel management program and daily clinical review during bowel management week, Management and coordination of care for patients with complex chronic conditions (e.g., cardiac, renal, neurologic comorbidities) undergoing surgical evaluation.
Ensure safe and coordinated surgical care by supporting: Pre-operative optimization and evaluation of high-risk patients, Post-operative care and acute admissions management, Collaboration with multidisciplinary surgical and medical teams.
Collaborate closely with pediatric colorectal surgeons, pediatric general surgeons, sub-specialty surgeons, intensivists, and interdisciplinary care teams to ensure high-quality patient outcomes. Maintain professional communication with referring providers and external partners. Serve as a primary APP for designated specialty clinics and programs, ensuring continuity of care and program consistency. Perform care coordination and patient communication duties, including: Triaging and responding to MyChart messages, Coordinating care plans across inpatient and outpatient settings, Supporting seamless transitions of care. Participate in clinical research activities, quality improvement initiatives, and program development efforts as applicable. Maintain appropriate licensure and participate in evolving multi-state practice opportunities as applicable (e.g., telehealth expansion).
