Job Description
Function of Position:
The Advisor will report to the Program Director (PD) and Program Coordinator (PC) and assist the PD with the coordination of the academic, social services, and activities of the Upward Bound Classic and Math and Science Programs at Monroe Community College (UB@MCC). The advisor will be responsible for providing personal, career, and academic advising and mentoring to program students at the Rochester City School District (RCSD) target schools.
*This is a temporary position that may be renewed annually, contingent upon the availability of the college budget and performance reviews. This position is eligible for paid time off and benefits.*
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one personal and small group career, academic advising, and mentoring to an assigned caseload of students at the target school
- Assist with the coordination of the academic year tutorial component of the program
- Assist with coordinating the academic and social components of the summer program
- Assist with the recruiting, training, assigning, and supervising of tutors and mentors
- Assist with the coordination and facilitation of program services, including academic advising, personal mentoring, social-emotional learning, and career and college exploring
- Assist with recruitment and maintenance of students at target schools
- Assist with the creation and maintenance of program communication through flyers and social media
- Collate and document all counseling and mentoring contacts
- Assist the PC in coordinating the student and parent/family initiatives of the program
- Maintain ongoing relationships with RCSD target schools, other colleges, and community-based agencies
- Assume program oversight role in the absence of the PC
- Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Program Director and Program Coordinator
- Must be available to work occasional evenings and Saturdays

Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Earned an Associate's degree in social work, human service, education, or related field from a regionally accredited higher education institution
- Two years of academic advising or mentoring in a related field
- Experience working with students from low-income, first-generation, diverse ethnic, or urban disadvantaged backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications:
- Earned a Bachelor's degree in social work, human service, education, or related field from a regionally accredited higher education institution
- Demonstrated experience coordinating academic activities and event programming for high school-age students
- Demonstrated success in overcoming the academic and economic challenges faced by students in the UB@MCC Programs
Additional Information
Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity, and college budget. This position has a range of $43,000 to $45,000 and is based on the mentioned factors.

Prohibition of Remote Work Outside New York State: Remote work locations outside New York State are not authorized by the College due to out-of-state tax and regulatory implications. In limited circumstances, prompted by business or operational needs, the College may approve requests to work remotely outside of New York State, on a short-term, temporary basis.
