The Department of Government, in association with the Thomas Jefferson Center for the Study of Core Texts and Ideas, at The University of Texas at Austin, seeks a scholar in the history of political theory with a focus in American political thought. Candidates' research should focus on fundamental texts and themes in American political thought such as the American Founding and constitutional principles; the meaning of rights, equality, and liberty; African-American thought; democratic statesmanship; civic virtue; and the challenges of sustaining democracy. Duties will include teaching courses on these and related themes for graduate students in the Department of Government and for upper-division undergraduates in both the department and the Program in Core Texts and Ideas, as well as serving as a lead instructor in the introductory course "Constitutional Principles: Core Texts" for students in both programs. The teaching expectation is normally 3 courses per academic year. Duties will also include research, and service to the department, center, college, and university. The start date may be as early as the Fall semester of academic year 2025-26 but is negotiable.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Ph.D.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Position funding is subject to budget availability.
