Position Highlights
The BIO5 Institute at the University of Arizona is seeking a Analyst, Biomedical Informatics. The Analyst, Biomedical Informatics will curate and perform analyses of registry data and patient surveys, as well as heterogeneous datasets, which may include REDCap surveys, electronic health records, unstructured clinical notes. We are seeking candidates interested in methods to classify patients within a rare disease spectrum, predict patients at high risk for adverse outcomes, to identify treatment strategies that are best for different subgroups, and to implement evidence at the point of care to guide clinical decisions.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Gathers and analyzes data from Registry, EMR and prospective study databases and literature sources, performs statistical and/or mathematical programming, develops reports and visual representations.
- Develops and/or maintains said databases, and presents date analysis results at laboratory meetings, provides consultation, training, and technical assistance to other lab members, and coordinates a variety of lab initiates.
- Advises and assists co-investigators in determining the appropriate statistical methodology to meet their study needs and objectives; uses various statistical and mathematical software packages to summarize and interpret statistical results; trains in new methods relevant to study goals, designs, implements, and coordinates study activities and process improvements.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong computational and quantitative capabilities, including ability to program in R, Python, etc., and to design and execute an analysis of heterogeneous medical, developmental and genetic data.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills required for working/coordinating with investigators, staff, supervisors, and project personnel across one or more systems.
- Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.
- Ability to successfully interact with a varied team, including clinicians, researchers, IT staff, families, and scientist across domains.
- Knowledge or direct experience in SCN8A or related disorders.

Minimum Qualifications
- Master's Degree required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with REDCap, registry data, health data, laboratory data, electronic health records, biomedical informatics standards.
- Experience in machine learning or natural language processing.
- Database experience, preferably experience in SQL.
