Job Description Summary

A Research Specialist position is available in the Brodsky lab at the University of Pennsylvania in the Department of Pathobiology, investigating innate immunity and inflammatory responses to infection. Key responsibilities of the position include managing the laboratory animal colony, culturing of cell lines and primary cells, molecular cloning, western blotting, ELISA, and flow cytometry. This is an opportunity to be part of a research team focused on studying innate immunity and inflammation, and the successful applicant will participate actively in conducting experiments and analyzing data. The ideal applicants should have a BA or BS in cellular or molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field, have 2+ years of experience in the area of cell biology, innate immunity, or cell signaling, as well as 1+ years of experience with mouse handling. The position offers excellent opportunities for intellectual growth and scientific training. The applicant must be well organized and is expected to maintain their own lab notebook. Additional responsibilities include organizing/ordering materials and reagents for the lab, dealing with vendors, and sharing lab maintenance duties.

Job Responsibilities

A position is available for a highly motivated individual as a Research Specialist within our laboratory studying the innate immune response to infection. The position will involve small animal breeding and husbandry, culturing of cell lines and primary cells, culturing of bacteria, molecular cloning, western blotting, ELISA, flow cytometry, and analysis of associated data. This is an opportunity to be part of a research team focused on studying innate immunity to microbial infection. The position offers excellent opportunities for intellectual growth and scientific training in an exciting and rapidly developing field. The individual will be an integral member of the laboratory and is expected to participate in lab meetings, discussions, and assist with experiments of other lab members. The applicant must be well organized and is expected to maintain their own lab notebook. Additional responsibilities will include organizing/ordering materials and reagents for the lab, dealing with vendors, and sharing lab maintenance duties with other lab members.

This position is contingent upon grant funding.

Qualifications

BA/BS in Molecular Biology/Biochemistry/Microbiology or related field, and 0 to 1 of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Working knowledge of essential laboratory techniques and methods, good written and verbal communication skills, and excellent organizational abilities are required. At least one year of laboratory experience is preferred. At least two years of experience in the area of cell biology, innate immunity, or cell signaling is preferred. $44,500.00 - $52,000.00 Annual Rate
Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job's level.
