Analyst I Payroll
Job Description
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The Analyst I, Payroll utilizes professional level skills to accomplish assignments within an area of functional specialty. Reporting to the Senior Payroll Manager, the Analyst I position serves as a key resource and high-level, cross-trained analyst for the Office of Human Resources payroll department. Responsibilities include auditing information, reporting, maintaining the payroll system's functionality, resolving payroll issues and making recommendations to the manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provides subject matter expertise for PeopleSoft's Time & Labor and Absence Management modules
- Supports the Sr. Payroll Manager in maintaining efficiency and accuracy of payroll department processes
- Collaborates with the Office of Technology Services and other key stakeholders to quickly and accurately resolve problems related to Time & Labor and Absence Management
- Assists managers and employees with Time & Labor and Absence Management questions; researches and resolves system issues and entry errors, escalate problems to appropriate personnel as needed for resolution of more complex needs
- Responds to Time & Labor information and documentation requests to ensure compliance with System, State and Federal policies and regulations
- Provides training to all levels of LSCS employees
- Recommends and implements system configuration changes; participate in testing upgrades, bundles, and patches; executes processes as needed to run payroll
- Audits Time & Labor information and documentation to ensure compliance with System, State and Federal policies and regulations
- Validates entries in Time & Labor, Absence Management, and payroll processing batches and makes corrections or adjustments as needed
- Supports various leave processes, including Short-Term and Long-Term disability, Sick Leave Pool, and Workers' Compensation claims
- Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of payroll practices
- Knowledge of related state and federal regulations related to Time & Labor
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency with common office software
- Ability to multi-task in fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail
- Analytical, critical thinking and computational skills
- Effective verbal and written communication and consultation skills
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
- Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment
- Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
- Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree and at least 1 year of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working in higher education
- Experience using PeopleSoft's Time and Labor module
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC)
- Professional in Human Resources (PHR), SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or higher
Salary
Hiring salary range is $48,152 - $55,375
