Overview
The Senior Vice President for Research and Economic Development is hiring a Research Compliance Analyst. This role provides leadership in evaluation, analysis, and administrative support for one or more compliance programs managed by the Office of Research Integrity and Compliance. Key programs include the Research Integrity Program, Animal Care and Use Program, Human Research Protection Program, and Biological Safety Program, along with their associated compliance committees. The Research Compliance Analyst helps ensure the institution meets its responsibilities for compliance with federal regulations, state laws, and university policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Comply with the Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) SOPs and applicable local, state, and federal regulations governing human subjects research.
- Conduct pre-review to ensure submissions are complete, consistent, and review-ready.
- Process IRB submissions, including New Studies, Modifications, Continuing Reviews, and Reports of New Information (RNIs).
- Route submissions appropriately for non-committee or committee review.
- Communicate review determinations and required changes to investigators.
- Escalate regulatory or ethical concerns to the HRPP Director or senior staff.
- Assist with preparation and coordination of IRB Committee meetings, including agenda management, quorum monitoring, documentation of determinations, and drafting minutes.
- Serve as a resource to researchers and IRB members regarding application preparation and electronic IRB system use.
- Assist with maintaining the institution's CITI Training account and assist with training-related inquiries.
- Assist with educational initiatives and provide feedback for HRPP Toolkit improvements.
- Maintain working knowledge of human subjects regulations and perform other duties as assigned.
Regulatory Compliance
- Comply with the Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) SOPs, including applicable local, state, and federal regulations, rules, guidelines, and ethical principles governing human subjects research.
- Perform assigned duties in accordance with established HRPP policies and procedures.
IRB Submission Processing
- Process IRB submissions as assigned, including New Studies, Modifications, Continuing Reviews, and Reports of New Information (RNIs).
- Conduct pre-review of submissions to ensure completeness and review readiness.
- Route submissions appropriately for non-committee or committee review.
- Communicate IRB determinations, requested changes, and outcomes to investigators and research staff.
Escalation and Oversight
- Identify and escalate regulatory, ethical, or procedural concerns to the HRPP Director or senior IRB staff as appropriate.
- Conduct non-committee reviews for limited submission types as assigned by the HRPP Director.
IRB Committee Support
- Assist with preparation and coordination of convened IRB meetings, including:
- Preparing submissions and materials for review;
- Assigning reviewers as directed;
- Managing agenda volume;
- Confirming IRB member attendance;
- Monitoring IRB member attendance during meetings;
- Documenting IRB determinations;
- Drafting meeting minutes and correspondence.
Investigator and Community Support
- Provide customer service and serve as a resource to investigators, IRB members, and key personnel by providing guidance on:
- Application preparation,
- Applicable regulations,
- Use of the electronic IRB system,
- Escalation of issues or questions to IRB Director or senior staff.
Training and Education Support
- Assist in maintaining the institution's CITI Training account and assist researchers with training access and compliance questions.
- Assist the HRPP Director with the development and delivery of educational resources for the research community.
Program Improvement
- Provide feedback to the HRPP Director regarding needed updates to the HRPP SOPs and resources.
- Assist in identifying educational needs of researchers, IRB members, and staff.
Professional Development
- Maintain working knowledge of human subjects regulations and remain current on regulatory updates.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Law, Ethics, Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Analytics, or related fields.
- 2 years of experience in research or related and supporting area, regulatory compliance, research integrity, and/or research administration.
OR
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Law, Ethics, Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Analytics, or related fields.
- 0 years of experience in research or related and supporting area, regulatory compliance, research integrity, and/or research administration.
Desired Qualifications:
- Animal Care and Use Program Certified Professional in IACUC Administration (CPIA)
- Human Research Protection Program Certified IRB Professional (CIP)
