Job Description

The Anatomy Assistant works closely with faculty, staff and students of the OPCVM. This position is responsible for meeting the day-to-day requirements of all facilities and functions that fall within the OPCVM Anatomy Department in addition to ordering supplies and maintaining inventory for the lab

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum one year experience in an anatomy or lab setting
  • Knowledge of university program goals and objectives
  • Familiarity with veterinary medical field
  • Experience with animal cadaver and osteology work

Job Duties

  • Assist the anatomy veterinarians in preparation of specimens as needed
  • Assist the designated faculty to provide anatomy experiences for students in an efficient, professional, safe, authoritative manner
  • Assist in the education of students as they acquire the entry-level skills, knowledge, and understanding of veterinary medical anatomy required of veterinarians under the direction of designated faculty
  • Comply with all personal protective equipment requirements
  • Maintain the overall professional appearance and organization of all facilities and locations associated with the Anatomy Department
  • Routinely lift a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Handle fresh and/or fixed cadaver tissue.
  • Manage the cadaver receiving and disposal activities
  • Maintain proper security for all University files and information and follow privacy procedures at all times.
  • Maintain records and procedures for duties and responsibilities of position
  • Complete required institutional, program accreditation, and other reports necessary for the advancement of University programs, both on campus and at extended campus sites
  • Engage in community outreach and education programs related to veterinary medicine and animal health
  • Collaborate and foster working relationships with peers, other colleges on campus, and external partners and stakeholders to attain the college s and university s goals and objectives.
