Position Highlights
The College of Veterinary Medicine, with the University of Arizona, seeks an Animal Care Technologist I. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing animal husbandry and will support all aspects of routine care including daily monitoring, record keeping, supply purchasing, feeding, watering, cleaning of habitat/enclosures, animal handling in accordance with university protocols, and training to facilitate animal participation in hands-on learning laboratories as part of veterinary medical education. This position is a primarily outdoor position and can include hours in both the heat and cold, as well as inclement weather. This position requires holiday and weekend hours, and may require work after hours for animal care emergencies. The candidate will be expected to work outdoors year-round, lift up to 50lbs, and operate UA vehicles and farm machinery.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide animal husbandry and care to the veterinary teaching herds on a daily basis including daily monitoring, feeding, watering, cleaning, handling, training, record keeping and routine care.
- Ensure areas where animals are housed, both inside and outside, are properly equipped, clean, and safe at all times and compliant with university procedures/protocols. Contribute to maintenance of official records.
- Collaborate with CVM faculty, staff, CAC faculty and staff, and provide student support in academic programs.
- Inventory supplies, assist with purchases both in terms of ordering and supply pickup, and help maintain paperwork and records for purchasing to comply with university procedures/protocols.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience is required.
- 1 year related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Successful employees will have experience in large animal handling (specifically with horses, sheep, and/or cows), a background in husbandry including maintenance of animal care spaces and feeding, and preferably some work or volunteer experience meeting compliance or oversight regulations (such as experience with SOPs, inspections, or record keeping).
- This candidate will demonstrate good judgment, be capable of working with limited supervision if necessary, and be committed to maintaining animal and student safety at all times.
