Animal Technical Trainer

Animal Technical Trainer

Join our dedicated animal research and training team as an Animal Technical Trainer, a vital role supporting high quality science and exceptional animal care within our Institute.

As part of our training team and working closely with up to 16 skilled animal technicians you'll deliver hands on training to technical and scientific staff, support day to day husbandry duties, and play an active part in regulated procedures essential to research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver training to technical, scientific, and facility users to ensure consistent standards across all procedures, equipment use, record keeping, and welfare practices.
  • Undertake Home Office licensed procedures and, once competent, support and assist in licensed procedure training.
  • Help onboard new staff and facility users, ensuring all training aligns with SOPs, welfare standards, and Home Office guidelines.
  • Maintain procedural and surgical areas, including equipment care, cleanliness, inventory control, and accurate charge back records.
  • Support the training team with SOP reviews, DOP development, and reverification processes.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and development of the training database and associated training documentation.
  • Assist in surgical areas, including sterile consumable management, environment upkeep, and acting as a surgical support technician.
  • Carry out routine animal husbandry, health monitoring, and environmental checks, ensuring the highest standards of hygiene and animal welfare.

About You

You'll be someone who is passionate about animal welfare, confident in communicating and training others, and keen to develop your technical and procedural skills further. You'll be organised, proactive, and able to balance training commitments with operational duties.
